Installation

Download OiPer Desktop, grant the permissions it needs, and keep it updated.

Download

Builds for macOS and Windows are published on GitHub:

github.com/oiper/desktop/releases/latest

macOS requires version 10.15 or later.

Install the app, then launch it. On first launch you go through first-run setup.

Permissions

On macOS, OiPer asks for four permissions before it can work. All of them are required, and the app shows a permission screen until each one is granted. Grant them from the screen, or later in System Settings → Privacy & Security.

PermissionWhy it is needed
MicrophoneRecords the audio that gets transcribed.
Input MonitoringDetects the global hotkey that starts recording.
AccessibilityInserts the transcribed text into other applications.
Screen RecordingDetects the active window's position so the overlay appears in the right place.

If you grant a permission while OiPer is running and the screen does not update, it re-checks every couple of seconds; quitting and relaunching also works.

Where OiPer stores its files

Everything the app writes lives in one application data directory:

  • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/com.oiper.desktop
  • Windows: %APPDATA%\com.oiper.desktop

That directory holds config.json, the oiper.db history database, downloaded models under models/, recorded audio under audio/, and logs under logs/. Deleting the directory resets the app completely.

Updates

OiPer updates itself from the GitHub release feed. Open Settings, scroll to the About section, and choose Check for Updates. When an update has been downloaded the button becomes Restart to Update; the new version is applied on restart.
