Dictation software for RSI and limited typing
If typing is painful, tiring or slow for you, OiPer lets you write by speaking. Press a hotkey, talk, and your words are typed into the app you are using. It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, and local transcription is free with no account.

No need to hold keys down
Besides push to talk, each profile can use press to start and stop: one press begins recording and another ends it, so you never hold a key while you speak.

An honest look at its limits, so you can pick the right tool.
It is dictation, not voice control
OiPer types text into the field you are in. It cannot open apps, click buttons, scroll or move the cursor by voice. You still use a key press to start dictating and a keyboard or mouse to choose where the text goes.
When a voice control tool fits better
For hands-free use of the whole computer, look at Voice Access in Windows 11, Voice Control on the Mac, Dragon Professional or Talon. They take spoken commands to navigate and edit.
Not a medical product
OiPer is a writing tool. It does not treat or prevent any condition. If typing hurts, talk to a health professional about what is right for you.
Questions, answered
What people ask before they start dictating with OiPer.
Is dictation software good for RSI or carpal tunnel?
Dictation lets you write text by speaking instead of typing it. OiPer is a writing tool, not a treatment, so follow the advice of your health professional about your condition.
Do I have to hold a key while I talk?
No. Set a press to start and stop hotkey on your profile: press once to begin recording and once to finish.
Can I control my whole computer by voice with OiPer?
No. OiPer is dictation into text fields. For voice commands that open apps, click and scroll, use Voice Access on Windows 11, Voice Control on the Mac, Dragon Professional or Talon.
Is there free speech to text software for people who cannot type well?
Yes. OiPer’s local transcription is free and unlimited on Windows, macOS and Linux, needs no account and works offline.
Does OiPer work in any app?
Yes. OiPer types where your cursor is, so it works in email, documents, chat, browsers and code editors.
Does OiPer need training to my voice?
No. OiPer uses Whisper speech models that work without voice training. A larger model gives better accuracy if words keep coming out wrong.
